The 8 Legged Monster was born to improve upon and keep the tradition of the small-big-band moving forward for a new generation. Since its inception, the 8 Legged Monster has been turning heads in the Bay Area's Jazz community. Founder Mike Irwin Johnson's arrangements offer the classic sound of early Bebop, yet with an entirely new attitude and approach to harmony. The Monster has such a distinct sound because they encompass all the musical styles that the jazz lineage has passed through, from Swing to free-jazz, yet bring to it an original, fresh sound. Already a fast favorite amongst the SF jazz community of musicians, they're one of the most entertaining and fun new bands to see.
Hey again,
We’ve got a fun show happening at Anna’s Jazz Isle this Sunday at 8pm; just in time to recover from your independence day excessivities.
There is going to be some live artists from Local 365 (Local 365 website) painting during the show. Great art by folks like James Gayles and Suzie Ferris have put a new spark of inspiration into the jazz scene around here and we’re proud to have the two artistic mediums of aural and visual connect yet again.
Hope to see some of you out there. For more info on Anna’s Jazz please visit:

Hello agian,
We’ve got a couple of fun things coming up this month. On June 19th, we’re playing a fundraiser at the Yerba Buena Center For The Arts for a very cool organization called “CHEFS”. CHEFS helps the homeless or recently homeless prepare for employment in food service. If you’re interested in learning more or buying tickets you can do so at: http://www.summertini.org/
On June 21 we celebrate Mike’s Birthday at the Makeout Room, 8pm. That’s right, Mike Irwin is turning 30 years old and he’s officially an old man. You should make fun of him as much as possible and definitely do not trust him anymore if you are 29 or younger. In addition to Mike, Mr. Eric Markowitz will be turning the big four-O!…since he’s elderly now he’ll probably just die on stage, but he’ll take that chance anyway. The festivities will feature music from the Eaton Barics Quintet (http://www.myspace.com/ebquintet) and, of course, the 8 Legged Monster. More info at http://www.makeoutroom.com/
Take care out there folks, and watch out for people riding those “fixies” around - they ain’t got no breaks!
